Program held in Ward 5, designed to advance entrepreneurial opportunity and financial acumen for single mothers

This six-week program is designed to develop financial and entrepreneurship skills for women in the District of Columbia between the ages of 18 to 30, pregnant or parenting, and currently looking to take their businesses to the next level.

The unique program provides participants with financial and business knowledge through an accelerated six-week program, original curriculum, a mobile e-learning app, and free childcare.

Application Requirements:

  • Must agree to participate in all in-person programs - Please note all programs occur on Saturdays from 11:30AM to 1:30PM

  • Must identify as low-income or asset limited income constrained

  • Must be expectant or parenting

  • Must have interest in starting or have an existing business

Application Deadline: Friday February 15, 2019

Optional Program Kick-Off Reception for Applicants:  Thursday March 21, 2019, 6:30PM - 8:30PM

Program Duration:  

·         Saturday March 30, 2019 - April 27 2019 - 11:30AM to 1:30PM (6 week program)

·         Practice pitch day - May 4, 2019 - 11:30AM to 1:30PM

 Program Graduation: Saturday May 11, 2019 - 2:00PM  to 3:30PM

Participants are expected to participate in all programs. Please note that childcare will be provided onsite for all programming.


Applications for the program will be accepted through Friday, February 15, 2019. The program will begin on Saturday, March 16, 2019, and will culminate with a graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2019, in advance of Mother’s Day.  All programming to be held at Luke C. Moore High School 1001 Monroe St NE, Washington, DC 20017.

The program has a maximum capacity of 25 women. If more than 25 applications are received, Walker’s Legacy Foundation reserves the right to select final program participants.
